In MS Outlook application all the data and crucial information are stored in a single file called PST file. When any email message is send through Outlook it is first temporarily first moved in to the Outbox folder and then it is sent. Once the sending process completes it is then stored in the Sent Items folder. But at times due to issues in the PST file like its corruption or damage this sending process doesn't accomplishes completely and the mails gets stuck. Such kind of PST files needs to be restored from the recent available backup and in its absence third party Outlook PST Repair need to be used.
To understand the situation let's consider a situation where you tried to send an email message from your Outlook application but the sending process does not complete, it simply gets stuck in Outlook folder and never moved to the Sent Items folder.
MS Outlook application is not able to send the email message and holds in Outbox folder when one of the following conditions are true -
You might be working in your Outlook in offline mode when there is no remote connection in it. So, in this situation Outlook can not send or receive any mail as PST typically behaves like a locally stored file.
You might be using outdated or incompatible add-in which is preventing the email message to be sent.
The message you have sent is moved to the Outbox folder but you have opened it before it is actually sent. This occurs because doing so will change the status of the email message and Outlook application fails to change it.
You may be trying to send email message as a reply from the account which does not exists any more.
The Personal Address Book (PAB) file or PST file is damaged and Outlook cannot send email message in such cases.
In order to resolve the mail stuck issue of MS Outlook, you need to follow these below mentioned measures -
Change the working mode of the Outlook if it is in Offline mode. To do this, go to the 'File' menu and click Work Offline option. Now, click the Tools menu and opt for the desired Internet Service account from Send/Recieve list.
Disable the incompatible and outdated add-ins and go to the Tools menu and open the Options dialog box. Now from the Add-in manager update all your add-ins.
To correct the technique of sending email message stuck in Outbox folder, check for the connections to the mail server and click 'Send'.
If you are replying your mails from the old account, then it is better you recreate one and send a new mail message by copying all the information to it.
If the PST file is damaged then try inbuilt utility of Outlook i.e. Inbox Repair Tool and see if the problem persists.
